Curve-Ball
Join One for the Kids on February 28th, 2015 as we host our Curve Ball. The event will be held at The Hyatt Lodge at McDonalds Campus(2815 Jorie Boulevard, Oak Brook, IL) from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Based on past years, this will be a very fun opportunity to give back to Chicago-area charities and a local family in need.

Since the beginning, One for the Kids has relished the curve ball. Be it our slightly irreverent tag line, a great time for a great cause or the fact that our original logo was designed on a cocktail napkin, we havent exactly been cookie cutter. Curve balls at our golf outing have become legendary. They have ranged from skydivers to a mechanical bull and from the Heisman Trophy to a dunk tank. Reveling in the unexpected is quintessential One for the Kids. The new Curve Ball name is about celebrating that fun and unpredictability and taking it to the next level for the benefit of our 2015 Host Family, The Janowiak Boys, along with our 3 partner charities, The Heart Institute at Advocate Oak Lawn Hospital, Benton House Community Settlement, and Special Olympics Chicago.

This year’s event includes: Open Bar | Howl 2 Go Dueling Piano Show | Silent Auction | Heavy Hors Doeuvres | Plenty of Curve Balls”

Benefiting the Janowiak Boys

The Janowiak boys are from Indian Head Park, Illinois. Matt, 19, is a sophomore at Saint Louis University and a 2013 graduate of Fenwick High School. Phil, 17, is a senior at Lyons Township High School.

Over the last two years, the boys tragically lost their mother to kidney disease and just recently lost their father to complications from a stroke. These two bright, talented and extremely likeable boys are stuck in an unfortunate situation with no money, no immediate family to live with in the neighborhood and a future that looks like an uphill battle at this pivotal time in their lives.

Fortunately, the Stefanini family, a friend of the family, took the boys in so Phil can finish his senior year at LT and Matt has a place to stay when home from college. The loss of both parents during this critical stage of funding their education is tragic and we are committed and ready to make a difference for these young boys.

The Charities

This year we have selected these three incredible organizations to be the beneficiaries of this fundraiser:

  • Benton House: in operation since 1907, Benton House is a non-profit group that gives back to the Bridgeport community of Chicago with youth programs, a food pantry, community garden, and so much more.
  • Special Olympics Chicago: Special Olympics Chicago is able to provide year round events and training for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • The Heart Institute at Advocate Children’s Hospital: this medical group is dedicated to providing the best care for children with heart conditions as well as research into new treatments.
