29th Annual Golf Outing

On August 13th, the sun was shining, the bloody mary’s were flowing and OFTK supporters were ready to kick off our 29th annual golf outing. Since we were unable to host our Curve Ball earlier this year, we were more excited than ever to have a great time for a great cause for our partner charities!

Co-chairman, Bob Lanigan began the morning by introducing our partner charities, Advocate Children’s Heart Institute and Special Olympics. Kevin Kickels teed up Johnny Vincent for a beautiful rendition of God Bless America to lead golfers into the shot gun start.

We love to make the outing bigger and better each year with different themed holes around the course. It felt great to be less “restrictive” when it came to participating which added to the fun – but just wait until next year when we celebrate our 30th!

First up – a theme to match the day…Friday the 13th. This hole had all of the elements of a spooky movie including chainsaws, Freddy Krueger masks and red nachos. A hole in one for a dark, yet extremely entertaining theme.

Another hole on trend? The [Marshmallow] Olympics. Here, everyone was an olympian but only the real winners were awarded a medal by a slightly injured but very dedicated board member, Dan Irwin.

Grab your cart and drive to the southside of Old Oak Country Club aka the SOX hole. Sometimes you just have to tell the northsiders what team is best.

Ah yes, the classic Bears hole. This probably made our veteran golfers feel right at home with the ever so talented McMurrays on the trombones playing the Bears Fight song right when you came to tee off.

Looking for a fun and colorful hotspot with all of the alcohol and snacks you can imagine? The Pelican Harry’s Sports Grill hole is it. Thanks to our lovely volunteers who made this happen!

Our junior board, Not Your Father’s Foundation, a One for the Kids charity, brought back their fun “Horse Race” hole which was a great stop for some betting and beer drinking. A fun and entertaining theme and we wouldn’t expect any differently from this awesome crew.

A special thank you to all of our sponsors. We appreciate your continued support!

Lastly, thank you to our golf outing chairs, Bob Lanigan, Tom Doyle and Kevin Kickels for coordinating such an amazing event. A “hole in one” once again. As always, Old Oak Country Club has been great to us for all of these years! Cheers!
