25th Annual Golf Outing

Well it seems that after 25 years, we’ve still got it. On Friday, August 18th the sun was shining, the coolers were filled to the top with beer and skydivers made quite an entrance for the opening welcome ceremony. Our 25th Annual Golf Outing was in full swing. Oh and best dressed? Bob Lanigan.

As every golfer walked into Old Oak Country Club, they were greeted by our volunteers and gifted a rolling OFTK cooler packed with goodies from some of our sponsors.

Co-chairman, Bob Lanigan began the morning by introducing our partner charities. As he thanked everyone for coming, 3 skydivers from Chicagoland Skydiving Center made a surprise entrance. “25 years of having a great time for a great cause and we have raised over $1.5 million through all of our events all thanks to your support and generosity.”said Bob.  Mike Glennon beautifully sang  an acoustic version of The National Anthem to officially start the day. Doug Hutchings from Advocate Children’s Hospital spoke very kind words of gratitude to all of the golfers. “What you are doing today directly benefits so many patients and families,” said Doug. “So thank you!”

One of our favorite elements of the golf outing each year is having some of the athletes from Special Olympics Chicago come out to meet our supports and even give those golfers some tips on their game. Skinny Sheahan also spoke some kinds words “With the money that this organization has raised, we have been able to expand our programs so much. It goes to all of the transportation, food and equipment for these athletes. We could never do this without you. You really do make a difference.”

Thank you to our two amazing partner charities!

Dan and Gina Hampton have always been such great supporters of our our charity and we love having them out at the outing every year. This year, we to made Dan an honorary One for the Kids board member!

As many of you know, we love to make the event bigger and better each year with different themed holes around the course. This year, our board members really stepped it up.

I don’t know if any of those southsiders recall but the Cubs won the World Series last year so we welcome you to the Friendly Confines hole. Here, the 312 beer flows like water and win or lose we still have fun. Plaaaaay Ball.

Here’s something for the Southsiders-an Irish Pub. Because why not have a blow up pub on a golf course?? Water front views, a Guinness and a fake fireplace made for a perfect afternoon hot spot. Sláinte!

Just after you’ve enjoyed a nice glass of Guinness, hop in your golf cart and stop by the Vodka Noddle hole to have fresh squeezed lemonade with a splash of vodka. Because it’s Summer and you deserve it.

Speaking of vodka, why not treat yourself to some flavored Oxygen and pretend like you’re in Vegas at our Club 25 hole!

And of course, The Ultimate Bear’s Tailgate hole where the McMurray’s do it right and make sure you’ve heard the Bear’s Fight Song more than once. Hey now!

Thank you to our Co-chairs, Kevin Kickels, Tom Doyle and Bob Lanigan. You KNOCKED it out of the park and we appreciate all of your hard work! Thank you to all of sponsors, donors, golfers and Old Oak Country Club for the last 25 years of support. Cheers to the next 25!
