2019 Celebration Reception

We feel so fortunate to have had another great Curve Ball & Golf Outing over the 2018-2019 season that resulted in over $140,000 raised! In order to honor our recipients and supporters, we held our 5th annual charity reception at Ditkas in Oak Brook a few weeks ago. As many of you know, we have two partner charities, Advocate Children’s Heart Institute and Special Olympics Chicago. A portion of the proceeds is gifted to each partner. In addition, the Gonzalez family was the main beneficiary of the fundraising event.

One for the Kids President, Tim O’Malley started off the night with some kind words of appreciation for everyone in the room.

Billy Bracken did a phenomenal job as this year’s chairman and was one of the most successful events to date. He had the honor of introducing not only a great friend but the host family of the Curve Ball, the Gonzalez family.

“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for our family,” said Tino. “You have made a significant impact on Alex’s life and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Next up, Bob Lanigan, who introduced Special Olympics Chicago. Heather Kundert, the Executive Director of SCC/Special Olympics Chicago with us as well and she gave some exciting updates on the organization.

Bill Kuhl then introduced our partners at Advocate who have been with us since the very beginning. Jackie Pufundt talked about all of the amazing things happening at the Heart Institute this year. On July 1st, they will be opening a brand new Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. We are very excited to announce that one of the consult rooms for doctors and patients will be named after One For The Kids! More to come on that!

This year’s “Step-Up Award” was given to Billy Bracken. Tim Carey, a wonderful friend in life and business, spoke kind words of Billy’s work ethic and loyalty and it really showed during this event!

Mike Magnusson introduced us to our 2020 Curve Ball host family. Stay tuned for an update on that!

Lastly, Dan Irwin talked about what One for the Kids means to him. It truly made us all smile and gave us confidence in our mission moving forward. Our board members and supporters are unlike any other so thank you for reigniting the fire to continue having a great time for a great cause, Dan!

Thank you to everyone for your continued support over the last 27 years!
