DESCRIPTION:On March 4th\, we will host our annual Curve Ball Event benefitting the Ryan Family.\n\nLucy (10) and Winnie (5) Ryan have an extremely rare form of mitochondrial disease which is a progressive disease that causes physical\, developmental\, and cognitive disabilities. Experts have indicated that less than 20 people in the world are currently known to have mito with the FDXR gene mutation. Given the rarity of their condition\, medical research is in its infancy. Lucy is now legally blind and is starting to lose her hearing. Winnie also cannot walk on her own\, is developmentally delayed\, has limited speech\, and shows other symptoms similar to Lucy. Kevin and Maura Ryan face numerous medical expenses due to testing\, treatments\, and hospital stays. Both girls undergo physical\, occupational\, speech\, and vision therapies. They require wheelchairs\, hearing aids\, and vision magnifier.\n\nThe Ryan family needs our help. Together we can make a difference for Lucy and Winnie!\n\nThere will be fun “curve ball” surprises\, dinner\, dancing and a silent auction. We can’t wait to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:On March 5th\, we will host our annual Curve Ball Event benefitting the Zwier Family. \nBeckham Zwier\, 17 lives in Antioch\, IL with his parents Bret and Nikki. After experiencing a healthy pregnancy\, Beckham had been diagnosed with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum\, (ACC). This means the bridge that connects the left hemisphere of the brain to the right did not develop. Along with ACC came a bundle of other issues – Cerebral Palsy\, Epilepsy\, Hydrocephalous\, Microcephaly and Scoliosis. \nBeckham will never walk and with the exception of “Mum\, Mummy\, More\, Me and Yeah” he is also unable to talk\, chew or feed himself. To this day\, the doctors have no answers and report this is a “one in a million” chance that this has happened. Beckham will forever be dependent on his parents and although insurance assists\, it does not cover all of the needs for Beckham. \nThe Zwier family needs our help. The event will be held at The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus (2815 Jorie Boulevard\, Oak Brook\, IL) from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Based on past years\, this will be a very fun opportunity to give back to Chicago-area charities and a local family in need. \nSince the beginning\, One for the Kids has relished the curve ball. Be it our slightly irreverent tag line\, a great time for a great cause or the fact that our original logo was designed on a cocktail napkin\, we haven’t exactly been cookie cutter. Curve balls at our golf outing have become legendary. They have ranged from skydivers to a mechanical bull and from the Heisman Trophy to a dunk tank. Reveling in the unexpected is quintessential One for the Kids. Pitt Hopkins Syndrome (PHS) affects a specific gene in chromosome 18 and is characterized by developmental delay\, lack of speech\, distinct facial features\, gastrointestinal issues\, possible breathing problems\, and possible recurrent seizures. PHS is so rare that Colton is one of only 350 people in the U.S. with the syndrome and as far is publicly known\, the single person in Illinois diagnosed with it. Since this syndrome is so incredibly rare\, there are a lot of unanswered questions for the family and they are unsure of what Colton’s future looks like. \n \nColton posing for Christmas pictures! \n \nThe Janeliunus siblings \nThe Wennerstrom Family \nAt 47 years-young\, thinking he was just battling a vicious virus\, Greg Wennerstrom was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.  This was extremely hard on Greg and Tracy as she was preparing to deliver their second Miracle Baby as well as care for their daughter. Even during the delivery of little Steven\, Greg was upstairs in the hospital receiving treatment for his illness while Tracy was downstairs bonding with the baby. Just three short weeks after diagnosis Greg lost his fight to the disease\, leaving behind a loving wife\, a six week-old baby boy and a four-year-old daughter. The family is now down to a single income\, struggling to recover from Greg’s missing paycheck. \n \n \nTo learn more about the event and how you can help\, please click below to contact us. The Curve Ball name is about celebrating that fun and unpredictability and taking it to the next level for the benefit of our 2016 Host Family\, The Kud Family\, along with our 3 partner charities\, Special Olympics Chicago\, Advocate Children’s Heart Institute\, and Benton House Community Settlement. \nBenefiting the Kud Family\nKayla Kud was born on March 28\, 2012 and welcomed into the family by her parents\, John & Melissa (Rapp) Kud\, and big sisters\, Gianna & Aubrey. \nShe is a beautiful and wonderfully made child of God\, but with many health issues which affect her development both physically and academically. She spent 34 days in the NICU\, has undergone multiple surgeries\, has undergone multiple tests and been hospitalized on numerous occasions. Kayla sees physicians in 13 specialties as well as 8 therapists for speech\, physical\, developmental\, occupational and nutrition. At age 3\, she only weighs 17 pounds and is not scooting\, crawling\, walking or talking. \nDespite many genetic tests\, Kayla remains undiagnosed. The doctors have not been able to determine what caused the congenital defects. She is currently participating in a study with the National Institutes of Health in an effort to find a diagnosis and better understand her medical conditions. Her medical issues are many and still evolving.
