Patriot Bike Challenge: Complete.

patriot-rideThe rain didn’t stop us from having a great time participating in the 4th Annual Patriot Assault Bike Challenge. On Saturday May 30th, the town of Elmhurst was swarmed with bikers dressed in bright lime green t-shirts completely covered in mud. We fit right in. What motivated everyone to make it to the finish line? Beer of course!

You have probably seen the energetic owners of Patriot Boxing and Fitness Systems, Tracey and Nick Janowitz at our events recruiting for this race. For the last 4 years, Patriot Boxing has put on a bike challenge that not only raises money for One for the Kids but gets the community involved in some fun fitness activities. A group of about 100 bike riders, including some of our finest board members, met at the Immaculate Conception parking lot where we were immediately told to “drop and give me 100.” Ouch. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to indulge in those beers last night. Each team was responsible for navigating around Elmhurst while stopping at several checkpoints along the 10 mile ride. When we found the designated parks on our list, we had to complete a Patriot inspired challenge. Some of these challenges included shooting basketballs and spelling P-A-T-R-I-O-T (much harder than we imagined), wheel barrow races, a zig-zag soccer ball course, and much more.

The post-race was held at Pints, where we were greeted with a nice cold beer from Lagunitas and a swag bag. Delicious appetizers were provided and a live band played some great tunes. Once again, Patriot put on an exciting event and we appreciate their support of our charity!

Cheers to a great time and we will see you at next year’s challenge!
