Always a Par-Tee in August

On August 14th, the sky was sunny, the beer coolers ready, the smell of hot dogs filled the air and the sounds of the Bears Fight Song echoed from the microphone. Ah yes, the One for the Kids 23rd Annual Golf Outing was in full swing. Every sip, smile and signed check helped us raise over $30,000 for our 3 great partner charities; Special Olympics Chicago, Advocate Children’s Heart Institute and Benton House!

We started out the day with a few raindrops but as the trend goes, we always end up with a sunny day to have a great time for a great cause. We were graced with the effortless voice of Johnny Vincent as he sang God Bless America and were lucky enough to have a few Special Olympians that gave us a few words of advice on our golf game. The one and only Dan Hampton made an appearance as well!

A few highlights from the outing were the themed holes, of course. “The Killer Bears Tailgate” was a hit once again with Pat McMurray on the trumpet and Ed McMurray manning the grill. Power couple right there. Zoom down to another sports favorite, “The Blackhawks Hole,” where golfers could take a picture with The Stanley Cup. Well an inflatable Stanley Cup, but still pretty great.

“The Margarita Hole” fit the theme of our blazing 90-degree day. A cold margarita paired with a pulled pork sandwich was the perfect Friday afternoon refreshment. Are you getting excited for the 2016 Olympics? We sure are. Welcome to the “Olympics Hole” where you could play soccer, beer pong and take your picture with Caitlyn Jenner. Seriously.

Thank you to our golf outing chairman, Kevin “The Senator” Kickels for an awesome event. A “hole in one” once again.

We could not have had such a successful event without the help and dedication of our sponsors, donors and volunteers. Mark your calendars for next year’s outing on Friday, August, 19th 2016!
